A Combination of Group and Private Instruction

Q. Why the combination of group and private instruction?

A. The opportunity to interact with other musicians brings "meaning" to all the musical content and skills learned throughout a musician's life.

There is an overwhelming body of evidence that supports the educational philosophy that "successful learning" occurs through a combination of individual and group activities.

Scientific evidence and
our experience supports the philosophy that, "music is a discipline that must be experienced and learned in a combination of group and individualized instruction". In fact, it is essential for musicians to play and practice together on a regular basis in order to develop their musicianship successfully.

In addition, differentiated forms of instruction offer more opportunities for everyone to achieve success at being more musical.

Q. How many people are in a group during ensemble sessions.

A. Group size is typically between 5 - 8 students.

Q. My son / daughter wants to be paired up with a friend during ensemble weeks. Are you able to accommodate this request?

A. Yes. As long as the placement of a student makes sense educationally and there is availability in the section.
It is important to recognize that we encourage this type of peer grouping. We also encourage parents to discuss with their children the reason for enrolling at Community Music. Community Music is " A Place for Music and Learning". Community Music is committed to creating an environment that will facilitate all our teaching and learning objectives. We will remind students of our objectives when they attend our school.
